In photography and video creation, in addition to the matching of camera and lens, a suitable filter system is even more indispensable for capturing ideal images.
Once upon a time, landscapes were my main subject matter, and fixed stop ND scrims and CPL polarizers were indispensable tools in my photography. However, as I became a full-time photographer, I have been using more and more filters for video recording and portrait photography, and the traditional fixed filters have become a bit too tight for me to use in a flexible and versatile one-man operation.
As an official partner photographer of H&Y Filter, this year I had the honor of experiencing the newly launched “EVO Series” filter set by H&Y brand, which has helped me a lot in my creative journey.
The filter combo I got includes: an Variable ND+CPL 2-in-1 filter, a black mist filter 1/4 and a 4-line starburst lens, as well as a handy filter storage bag.
I chose the 82mm universal aperture, supplemented by an adapter ring, which easily adapts to my diverse lenses under both Sony and Fuji systems. Since then, my traveling photography journey has become more convenient and efficient than ever.
H&Y EVO Series VND3-1000+CPL is an innovative 2-in-1 dual-mode design. With its unique dual mounting method of magnet and screw, this filter is suitable for a variety of quick-release photography scenarios, allowing me to be more flexible in my creations under different lighting conditions!
Ripple mounting, just screw the filter clockwise onto the lens, and the front end magnetically stacks the filters.
When using the adjustable nd out shooting, just turn the adjustment toggle, nd scrim will go from subtle light reduction to deep darkening, can be adjusted according to the shooting needs and scene switching, whether it is the pursuit of dynamic blur in the video, or framing the clouds in the scenery of the pulling, it can be easy to handle.
The built-in CPL polarizer has become my right-hand man in eliminating water ripples and leaf reflections and restoring natural colors, making the sea bluer and the sky clearer.
The Black Soft filter has always been my favorite filter to use, especially at the quarter stop. It doesn't lose too much detail in the image, but softens just the right amount of the parts I want to soften.
I often use it as a hang-on filter for Fuji cameras because it not only softens the highlights for a dreamy and filmic look, but it also makes the skin of the people smoother and more delicate. Combined with Fuji's own in-camera skin resurfacing, it makes my travel photography more efficient and achieves twice the results with half the effort.
This time I received a starburst lens and it was the first time I used it. In the past, if I wanted to have a starburst effect in the picture, I could only reduce the aperture very small or use some manual lenses that are more prone to starbursts.
Now with the starburst lens, I can easily produce a clear, bright starburst effect at point light sources. I usually like to use it to capture the reflection of the sun on the sea surface, giving a starburst effect that is very dreamy.
During this period of use and experience, the H&Y EVO Series filters have enriched my daily shooting needs with the flexibility of the adjustable ND, the dreamy beauty of the black soft filters, and the bright starbursts of the starburst filters.
H&Y's filters have become a creative tool that I carry with me because of their excellent performance in image quality, color, and compatibility. May my sharing bring you a touch of inspiration and enlightenment for those of you who also love photography and video creation.
