Recently in the creative process of shooting, I found that the regular shooting is difficult to meet my creative needs, especially in some sunrise and sunset, sunrise and sunset and other large light ratio situation, the image is often difficult to balance.
So after a friend's seeding, I got a set of H&Y EVO-series dual-mode mounted landscape gradient kit, which contains adjustable ND3-1000+CPL Filter Kit, gradient lens GND16, and a magnetic filter cover.
After using it for almost a month, I'm sharing how I feel about using this filter in real life shooting.
Let's talk about the advantages first, what makes me feel the most is its convenience, when I go out to shoot, I only need to carry one adjustable nd filter, which can meet my various light reduction needs from nd3 to nd1000.
When I think back to the past, in order to cope with different light conditions, I had to carry a whole bag of fixed filters, but now I only need one filter, easy to deal with, so that my camera bag instantly reduces the burden, but also makes my creative journey more relaxed and free.
Normally, when shooting sunrise, sunset, sunrise, evening sunset and other such scenes, the use of GND filters can easily balance the exposure between the two, making the picture more harmonious and natural.
The innovation of EVO-series filters lies in its unique dual-mode mounting design, which can satisfy two different mounting methods at the same time: screwing threads and magnetic suction.
Whether it's the traditional threaded mounting method or the trendy magnetic mounting method, it's easy to handle. I personally favor the magnetic method, just fix the magnetic ring on the lens in advance, and when you need to gently suck, the filter can be accurately in place, which is both fast and stable, greatly improving the shooting efficiency.
The second is its multi-selectivity, the traditional fixed nd filter if you want to adjust the gear must buy multiple filters, and this adjustable nd filter, realized from nd3-1000 arbitrary switching, a variety of gears to choose.
Even better, the CPL filter adds unlimited possibilities to my work. Whether it's shooting the soft pull of gurgling water or recording the flow of traffic, this filter has become my right-hand man, so that every piece of work is full of vitality and artistic sense.
Of course, no product is perfect.
While using this filter for long exposure shooting for an extended period of time, I also encountered a common problem: crosshatching, and in fact, the usual crosshatching of most brands of adjustable nd filters.
However, to its credit, H&Y Filters has provided an effective solution to this problem. For wide-angle lenses within the 35mm focal length, when using the highest gear, it is recommended to stack a piece of nd16 filter, so that the original wide-angle can only be used in the use of 1.5-5 stops of the use of the range extended to 6-10 stops, effectively avoiding the emergence of high-grade under the cross-hatched, this thoughtful design, undoubtedly, make this filter in the utility of the next step up.
Overall, if you are a photo hobbyist, this filter will surely bring more playfulness to your work, and if you are a video creator, the use of a small amount of light reduction will surely add color to your work.
